Is it seriously October?
You wouldn’t be able to tell by the 90-degree temperatures we’re still having in Georgia, but I guess so…
Time for another look at the ole net worth. September flew by, especially since we went on vacation for a week to Cancun. We stayed at the Hyatt Zilara and paid for most of the trip with credit card points.
I got the flights for free (except for tax & luggage) and about $1,200 off the hotel price just by putting our regular expenses on a few credit cards. Pretty cool! (you can check out which cards I’ve used here).
This was our first time in Mexico and we had a great trip! The Hyatt Zilara is an all-inclusive resort, so we didn’t do much “traveling”. We did get plenty of relaxing done though and that’s what we wanted to do!
I wouldn’t want to sit around and do nothing all the time, but sometimes it’s nice to be able to do that for a few days!
Nothing too special about our income this month. eBay income is going strong and I made another $100 by doing some computer work for the antique store where I have a booth.
I did actually earn some blogging income (a little over $200) in September, but won’t be paid for another 60 days. I should finally get some payout in October for income I earned a couple of months ago.
As you can see, our lifestyle expenses shot way up this month. I finally got around to paying some medical bills we needed to pay and that was about $200.
We spent some money while on vacation and had several miscellaneous things pop up during this month. I’d like to think our expenses will go down from here, but that might be wishful thinking with the holidays coming up.
Any month that our net worth goes up is a good financial month to me! We pulled some cash out for savings to buy new iPhones.
We had had our phones for 3 years and our phones are one of our most used items, so I don’t mind shelling out some money every few years to upgrade. Hopefully, we’ll get 3 years out of these new phones.
It’s pretty cool to see our investments growing by the hundreds, even in accounts we aren’t actively contributing to! I can only imagine what the growth will look like 20 years from now if we keep this up.
Credit Card Points
- Points earned in September = 61,463
- Total point balance = 69,209
I hit our spending requirement (by buying the iPhones) for the Captial One Venture Rewards Credit Card, so we got a 50,000 point bonus this month.
I may end up cashing out our credit card points balance because we’re planning a family vacation for next year and I’m paying cash to my family, so the points won’t be usable since we’ll be driving to the location. Can’t beat a free $500 for basically doing nothing though!
So how was September for you? let me know in the comments!
Oh, and how do you like the redesign of the site? Love it? Hate it? Let me know.
Net worth tracking

I would suggest adding your house through Zillow if you own a home so you can see as close of a full picture of your net worth as possible.
